"The family, as we have traditionally known it, is such a refuge of safety. When true values and basic virtues undergird the families of society, hope will conquer despair, and faith will triumph over doubt". President Thomas S. Monson

Girls Camp 2010

This year's Young Women Theme is "Be Strong and of good courage neither be thou dismayed for the Lord thy God is with thee wheresoever thou goest" Joshua 1:9
This year camp was at Mutual Dell in the American Fork Canyon. The mountain just behind our house. There were many other groups, as in wards. They all wore different color shirts, had their own "Value" and camp name. Our color was Orange, Our Value was Choice and Accountability, and the ward camp name was EVE, which goes very well with the Value. This picture of the boot was designed by Sadie Dodson who is one of our young women, and lives just across the street. All the Dodson girls are pretty talented. If you look closely there is a sword in the boot. Everyone thought that was way cool. This is Alicia 4th year at camp Briana's 3rd year. At camp they do lots of fun things. They perform skits, they go on hikes, they play games, sing songs, and lots of exciting things girls do with their friends. Every year David goes up with them for a day to help out too. The leaders always love to have him along since he is a certified EMT. One of the girls hurt her ankle this year and he was kind to carry her so she didn't miss out on hikes, or other activities. He was also there to help with the zip line. Catching and stopping all the girls at the end. I couldn't wait for them to get back and tell me how it was. . I'm so glad they had a great and wonderful time again at camp. It's something they look forward to all year. Alicia looks forward to be next year when she will be a YCL (Youth Camp Leader) She will make an awesome YCL.The whole gang

They are always fed pretty well t camp.

Young Women Conference

I am so glad that Young Women Conference falls on the weekend the girls are going to be here. Every Conference in April they have the Young Women Broadcast, and every year I look forward to it with my daughters. It's not often that they get to attend their meeting back in California, neither do they get to attend church as aften as they would like.

The Young Women theme this year is from Joshua1:9 BE STRONG AND OF A GOOD COURAGE;BE NOT AFRAID, NEITHER BE THOU DISMAYED: FOR THE LORD THY GOD IS WITH THEE WITHERSOEVER THOU GOEST.

We heard wonderful inspired talks given from our Young Women Leaders, and from President Ulfdorf. They have given cousel for them to "Be of a good courage" "Never Never Give Up" "Remember who you are" and one of my favorites...."Your Happily Ever After". In that talk Ulfdorf says....... "that no mater our favorite fairtale, the main charactar, either it be a princess, a peasant, a mermaid, ruler or servant, one thing is always common...that they must overcome adversity. Between the "Once a opon a time" and the "happily ever after" they all had to experience great adversity. The scriptures tell us there is opposition in all things, for without it we cannot disern the sweeet from the bitter. In stories, as in life, adversity teaches us things we cannot learn otherwise. Adversity helps to develop a depth of character that comes in no other way. Our loving Heavenly Father has set us in a world filled with challenges and trials so that we, through opposition, can learn wisdom, become stronger, and experience joy."
"Be strong and of good courage. You are truly royal spirit daughters of Almighty God. You are princesses, destined to become queens. Your own wondrous story has already begun. Your “once upon a time” is now." "

Both my girls have felt the spirit testify to them the truhfulness of the things that were said.... and both me and them were wiping away the tears as we left the meeting. It was the exact things they needed to hear to help and guide them as they face hardships as young women. I was so grateful for the oppurtunity our Heavenly Father provides for us to receive guidance in these days. I am grateful that there is today, as there was yesterday and will be forever, a “God of miracles” who loves His children and desires to bless them.

YW trip to the Salt Lake Cemetery

Briana was able to go to a young women activity the day we got back from California. We just barely made it. Alicia stayed home since she was still hurting from her braces. She just got her bottoms on the day before. So the activity was a trip up to the Salt Lake Cemetery. I wished I could have gone with her... but I was so tired from the drive. So she took my camera and took some pictures for me. This is the cemetery where they have most of the Latter Day prophets. She said it was pretty cool.. but then it started to rain on them.

Young Women's Stake Camp 2008

This year the girls went to Heber Valley Camp for the week of July 21-25. It is on the top of the most beautiful mountain (about 45min drive) that president Hinkley dedicated for the Young Women of the Church. This was Briana's first year, and she was so excited. They stayed in cabins w/their pads and sleeping bags that fit 14 people. Lucky for them they had bathrooms with showers and flushing toilets. They did all kinds of fun crafts, hikes, challenge courses, skits, service projects and canoeing. I didn't go with them this year, but they were still able to take some pictures for me. They had a great time, and couldn't wait to tell me all about it when they got back.

Here is a group picture of the girls in our ward. Briana is in the 1st row, Alicia is in the 2nd. Each ward had different colors. Ours was green. Briana had painted her nails to match while she was there.

Briana on the right sitting on a log by the camp fire with friends Clarissa and Brittany.

We don't move when we all pull in different directions.

Alicia was one of 4 girls who volunteered to play this blindfolded game. Most of everything they did at camp related to their theme which was different on each day "Celebrating the Light", "Seeking the Light", "Becoming the Light", "Sharing the light" "I will hold up my light".As you might tell in this picture, Alicia spray painted her hair green.

Here are the girls strapped up and ready to go on the challenge course.

Alicia on the pole climbing up to the top.

Here she is going across. She said this was a lot of fun, but a little scary at the same time. I don't have any pictures of Briana doing this, but she said she had a lot of fun too.

The YW leaders have a fun time at camp with the girls as well. Briana took this picture of them being silly. In the back is the lake they all went canoeing.

The day they arrived back home.
