I love being a member of the Church of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For those of you not familiar with the Church....members around the world gather together twice a year in their homes or churches to listen to our inspired leaders. This October I was given the opportunity again to attend the Conference center... but this time with my husband to General Conference. It was a great experience for me for the first time. I loved all the talks that were given. One of my favorite's that morning was by David Bednar, who spoke on the importance of family. His talk was entitled... More Diligent and Concerned at Home.
He gave three good suggestions that were...
1. Express Love—and Show It.
In which he quoted Thomas S Monson “Often we assume that [the people around us] must know how much we love them. But we should never assume; we should let them know. . . . We will never regret the kind words spoken or the affection shown. Rather, our regrets will come if such things are omitted from our relationships with those who mean the most to us”
2. Bear Testimony—and Live It
3. Be Consistent... these are some of his quotes. "Many of the Savior’s harshest rebukes were directed to hypocrites. Jesus warned His disciples concerning the scribes and Pharisees": “Do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not” (Matthew 23:3). This strong admonition is sobering given the counsel to “express love—and show it,” to “bear testimony—and live it,” and to “be consistent.”
The hypocrisy in our lives is most readily discerned and causes the greatest destruction within our own homes. And children often are the most alert and sensitive when it comes to recognizing hypocrisy.
A public statement of love when the private actions of love are absent at home is hypocrisy—and weakens the foundation of a great work. Publicly declaring testimony when faithfulness and obedience are missing within our own homes is hypocrisy—and undermines the foundation of a great work. The commandment “Thou shalt not bear false witness” (Exodus 20:16) applies most pointedly to the hypocrite in each of us. We need to be and become more consistent. “But be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
This conference every talk that was given was focused on Love and or talked about love.
Another one that touched me so much... was by Jeffrey R Holland. This was the next day on Sunday while Dave I watched it at home. I was in tears when he bore his strong, unwavering, and true testimony of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. In which both testify of Jesus Christ. and I love this quote .... “No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.”
Here is the last part of his talk that was SOOOO Awesome! You have to see it.
