"The family, as we have traditionally known it, is such a refuge of safety. When true values and basic virtues undergird the families of society, hope will conquer despair, and faith will triumph over doubt". President Thomas S. Monson

Pioneer Trek 2009 "Carry On"

Alicia and Briana went on a pioneer trek with the Stake Young Men and Women. Briana went on a one day trek. Alicia went on a three day trek. They both were able to experience a little of what the real pioneers went through. They were all put in families. The adults who volunteered were Ma's and Pa's and the young men and women were the brothers and sisters. Everyone had to choose an ancestor to represent on the trek. So they both chose their great grandfather Eugene Frank Peshak (1924-2003). They had to hike miles for them at the same time pulling a hand cart. Their was one day that Alicia said that the women had to do it alone, it was called the women's pull. She said it was really hard. Aside from the handcart pulling they gained friendships, enjoyed nights of activities, dancing, and testimonies. Alicia even got to shoot a gun.... ya know the old ones you fill with gun powder. They both had a fun and remarkable experience, as they gained faith and knowledge of what our ancestors have done for us, and how much faith they had to carry on.
As the words of the Hymn say:
Firm as the mountain around us, stalwart and brave we stand
On the rock our fathers planted for us in this godly land
The rock of honor and virtue, of faith in the living God.
They raised his banner triumphant over the desert sod.
And we hear the desert singing: Carry on, Carry on, Carry on!
Hills and vales and mountains ringing: Carry on, Carry on, Carry on!
Holding aloft our colors, we march in the glorious dawn.
O youth of the noble birthright, Carry on, Carry on, Carry on!
We'll build on the rock they planted, a palace to the King.
Into it's shining corridors, our songs of praise we'll bring.
For the heritage they left us, not of gold or of worldly wealth,
but a blessing everlasting of love and joy and health.

Here are some pictures I took before they left. They look so beautiful even in pioneer clothing.
